ANNA MARGO | SELFISH
DIRECTOR | DANIEL CARBERRY
For this music video, I collaborated with director Daniel Carberry to create something far bigger than the budget would suggest.
This was an extremely lean production. No AC, no large crew, no truck full of gear, just Daniel and me, a tripod, a few practical and budget-friendly lights, and a clear creative vision. I served as Director of Photography, handling camera, lighting, lensing, and the full visual execution from start to finish.
We shot on the Sony BURANO using Sony autofocus zoom lenses, which gave us the speed and flexibility to move fast while still maintaining a polished cinematic look. Because the setup was so minimal, it allowed us to stay instinctive and let the visuals evolve naturally throughout the day.
While we had a strong treatment going in, the real style of the piece was discovered on set. During shooting, I started building a visual language around aggressive whip pans and rhythmic left-to-right camera movement, creating a dynamic energy that wasn’t part of the original plan. That choice became a defining visual thread for the entire video and helped shape the final identity of the film.
That’s one of my favorite parts of cinematography. Sometimes the best ideas happen in the moment. What starts as a concept transforms into something better because you stay open to the process. This project became exactly that, a reminder that great filmmaking is not about budget, but about instinct, collaboration, and knowing how to adapt creatively in the moment.
